North Carolina meets TEXAS BBQ and TexMex
Howdy!!!
El Padre Thomas de Rightmyer was in Dallas this weekend organizing the reading
of Province VII GOE's at our diocesan retreat center. Last night he feasted
on REAL TEXAS BBQ, the clergy having dispensed themselves from Lenten
discipline. Also, please note that I did not refer to "TEXAS style BBQ," but
REAL TEXAS BBQ, for there is no other BBQ!
This morning, Tom worshiped with us at St. Christopher's, and then spoke at
the coffee hour about seminary and theological education. This was followed
by, ta da, . . . TexMex, and long, leisurely conversation, remembering in the
course of things that it being Sunday, a feast day, we did not need
dispensation.
Before last night I knew only the scholarly, and sometime Republican Party
henchman, Tom, from the List. But I found the "real" Tom to be quite gentle,
gifted with a subtle wit, and genuinely humble in a wonderful sort of way that
makes you want him for a friend.
Thanks to President Clinton (let Tom swallow that), Tom is now winging his way
back to North Carolina on American, no doubt remembering the wonderful food
and fellowship he found in TEXAS.
